Child’s Soldier Costume (Material Memory)

Year: 1977

Origin: Blackburn, Lancashire

Donated By: Joanne Hoole

Created from skirts belonging to Joanne’s mother in the early 1970s, this soldier costume was made for the Queen’s Silver Jubilee celebrations in 1977. One black skirt was used for the trousers and a red woolen skirt for the jacket, along with coins and hair ribbons for medals.

This costume was then reworked and worn again around 18 years ago for a dance school performance of The Nutcracker at King Georges Hall, where Joanne’s daughter was part of the ballet performance.
