Bibi (Material Memory)

Year: 1980s

Origin: Belfast

Donated By: Sophie Giller

Bibi, a lovingly hand-knitted blanket crafted by Sophie’s grandma in  1990, initially celebrated the birth of Sophie’s elder brother. When Sophie arrived in 1992, she named it Bibi as it moved into her cot – she couldn’t quite manage to say ‘blanket’. Over the years, Bibi became Sophie’s beloved comfort blanket, even writing a special love letter to Bibi during her childhood. Many years later, Bibi still sleeps beside her and retains these special childhood memories.
